Farewell to Spark Lab
We are completing the Spark Lab project. Now and in the future, we are focused on our main educational project, inVision U University.
Challenge-Based Learning*
It includes three main stages:
1
Engage
Identifying a challenge based on a real-world issue.
2
Investigate
Researching and exploring possible solutions.
3
Act
Implementing measures to solve the problem
*Challenge-Based Learning is
an innovative approach to education that focuses on solving real-world problems.
Achievements and Impact
Spark Lab, our student laboratory, facilitated the collaboration of over 100 students to address socially significant challenges.
Spark Lab has developed 15 projects aimed at addressing critical environmental issues.
Focus areas included air pollution, forest fires, oil spills, and waste management.
Cutting-edge technologies were used to predict, monitor, and analyse potential dangers, providing valuable tools for addressing catastrophes.
Environmental Monitoring and Protection Initiatives
Air Pollution Control
Developed a model to identify high-pollution vehicles in traffic, aiding eco-police in removing major polluters from the roads.
The project was done in partnership with the company Sergek.
Forest Fire Prediction
Collaborated with an academic institute in Kazakhstan to design a map of potential forest fire zones, assisting the Ministry of Emergency in predicting fires.
Oil spill detection
Machine learning-based software for automating the detection of oil spills in satellite images with up to 95% accuracy.
94 spills were recorded from July 2023 to January 2024.
Transition to University-Based Student Laboratory
We are transitioning our focus to a new University Project, transforming Spark Lab into a student laboratory based at the university. This new setup will provide students with the opportunity to continue addressing socially significant issues through innovative projects.
New Opportunities for Students The University Project will offer students a dynamic environment where they can realise their most challenging ideas under the guidance of experienced team leaders. They will have the chance to conduct studies, test hypotheses, and see their work through from conception to the final product. This experience will enhance their project activities, team collaboration, and project implementation skills. Additionally, students will be able to document their project work as part of their graduation thesis or apprenticeship, if needed.
